Sergio wurde 1971 in New York geboren und wuchs in Rom auf. Er hat genau die Wurzeln, die man braucht um grandiose Fotografien zu machen, seine Mutter ist eine italienische Malerin und sein Vater ein amerikanischer Bildhauer. Was einem so in den Genen liegt, kann man dann fotografisch ausdrücken und genau das macht Sergio Kurhajec. 

 

 

Er studierte an der "Accademia delle Belle Arti" in Rome und hat zahlreiche Ausstellungen begleitet. Später ist er wieder in seine Heimat New York zurückgekehrt und hat dort sein Studium weitergeführt. Er assistierte Fashion Fotografen wie Diego Uchitel, Carter Smith, Kevin Aucoin und Christopher Micaud.

 

Sergio ist seit 2002 als professioneller Fotograf tätig und kann einiges an Referenzen vorweisen, Editorials und Werbefotografie u.a. für Eileen Fisher, Lord & Taylor, Bloomingdales, Mitchells, Harpers Bazaar, Glamour, GQ, Soma, City, Cosmopolitan, Tatler und Men’s Health. Beeindruckend wie seine Fotos.

 

Ein paar kleine Fragen hatte ich dann noch an Sergio :

 

How long have you been photographing, you wrote 2002, what was your first picture ? 

 

My first editorial actually was in 2001 and I got the cover of the magazine. It was for SOMA and it's the series of pictures of the girl on the block of wood and cement floor. But I have had a camera in my hands since 1987.

 

What kind of cameras do you use most ?

 

I used to shoot all in 4x5 with a Toyo Field but now I don't do film anymore and shoot mostly with a Canon.

Which idols do you have?

 

I don't idolize anyone

What was your biggest success so far ? 

 

Probably staying in the same relationship for 17 years

What are your next plans?

 

Buy a motorcycle and go on a long road trip

 

 

Do you know Germany ?

 

I was in Berlin back in 1996 for a coupe of weeks and had a fantastic time. It was beginning of summer and people were happy and very outgoing. It was also very cool to see left overs from when it was a divided city. It was a nice contrast with the excited energy of the times.

 

Natürlich stellt meine Auswahl nur ein Querschnitt des gesamten Portfolios dar und die "Nude" Serie habe ich hier bewusst mal außer Acht gelassen, also ab auf die Seite von Sergio und das "liken" nicht vergessen.
